Exercise 4

29. Ms. Brown, whom did you recommend for the job, will start to work tomorrow.

Explanation:
The sentence above is incorrect (I). There are two clausees. The first clause is "Ms. Brown will start to work tomorrow" and it's correct. The second clause is "Did you recommend for the job" and it's incorrect because the adjective connector is "Whom" and after that no need to add "Did".

The correct sentence is:
Ms. Brown, whom you recommend for the job, will start to work tomorrow.

Explanation: There are two clauses. The first clause is "Ms. Brown will start to work tomorrow" and the second clause is “Whom you recommend for the job". The second clause is an adjective clause because it describes the noun “Ms. Brown”.

Diversity and How to Maintain

According to the website of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, the definition of diversity is a condition in society that there are many differences in various fields. Differences can be seen from ethnicity, race, religion, beliefs, political ideology, socio-cultural and economic and others.

From the definition above, diversity is in accordance with the conditions in our country, Indonesia. Indonesia is an archipelago which has 17,504 islands spread from Sabang to Marauke and in each island there are diverse differences ranging from population, customs, flora and fauna and other matter. Even in one island there can also be differences, a small example is that although both are on the island of Java there are culinary differences between Central Java and East Java. Culinary from Central Java has a sweet taste and not too spicy, but culinary from East Java has a spicy and salty taste.

The diversity in Indonesia can occur because of the struggle of our ancestors who have fought very hard so that the people of Indonesia from Sabang to Marauke can unite. The desire to unite can be seen from the motto of our country that reads ‘Bhinneka Tunggal Ika’ which means ‘different but we are still one’. Therefore, we as the next generation must be able to maintain the unity of Indonesia that has been passed down by our ancestors. We can protect it by maintaining the diversity that exists in our country. There are several ways we can do to maintain diversity, for example:
  • Strengthen understanding of the ideology of the Pancasila and the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.
  • Foster awareness for tolerance by associating without regard to ethnicity, race and religion.
  • Creating culture-based social integration by respecting the entire culture in Indonesia and provide a balanced opportunity in the economic, social, political fields and choose the religion and beliefs of each without intervention and discrimination.
  • Fight and distance yourself from radical understandings that can break unity.
  • Maintain mutual cooperation culture that can foster togetherness between neighbors and strengthens kinship.

My Activities While at Home

The world is facing a corona outbreak. To prevent its spread the government implements a social distancing policy so that people were encouraged to remain at home. Therefore, my lectures and lab are also done online through the v-class and praktikum.ug website. Every time I get an assignment notification from my classmates in group chat, I will go to the website and do my assignment. But sometimes, I also check the web if only there are some assignment that are missed and not yet done.

My daily life, which is usually busy going to campus, is more relaxed because I am only at home. Usually in the morning I will get ready to go to campus but, because I am currently studying online, now I can clean my cat’s cage and watering the flowers before turn on the laptop and start working on the assignment. After all assignment done, usually I watch drama or read novel. My current favorite novel is Goosebumps written by R.L. Stine. It’s a novel series and I have bought several series via online shop, so I wont run out of reading for a while. I also pay more attention and play with my cat more often and my daily life keeps repeating.

At first it might have been fun because I didn't need to go to college but now I am really bored at home. I have been at home for more than a month. I started to miss hanging out with my friends, going to the mall, watching the cinema, eating snacks outside and even I started to miss the atmosphere in class. And honestly, I prefer face-to-face lectures compared to online lectures, I feel I can understand the lessons better when explained by lecturers than when I read material through ppt or pdf provided by lecturers. According to the campus circular as soon as the face-to-face lecture activities are started, the UTS is immediately held so I am worrying about my grades this semester. I really hope the lecturer will gives us a remission in UTS so we are allowed to open the book.
